My daughter asked me how she could tell the difference between God speaking to her and her own thoughts. This is what I told her.
It is written, "God's ways are not your ways, and God's thoughts are not your thoughts; as high as the heavens are above the earth, so are God's ways above your ways, and God's thoughts above your thoughts." So focus on three things:
1. You are not God.
I told my daughter this: the question, "How can I tell if God is speaking to me or if it's my own mind," assumes that you can think something so...profound(?), or whatever, that you couldn't tell the difference between your thoughts and God's, as if there may not be a difference. But there is a difference! You are not God, and God is not you. Not only that, but something else.
2. You are mind isn't God's mind.
I told my daughter this: Not only are you clearly "not God," but your mind is infinitely inferior to His. God's mind, intelligence, creativity, and reasonability are infinitely above yours. Which means this: all you have to do is think, and you can know that whatever you thought, God didn't, by definition, for this reason:
3. You can't know God's thoughts unless he reveals them.
It is also written, "No one knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of the person in them, and no one knows God's thoughts expect the Spirit of God." In the same way that people can't read each others' minds, no one can read God's mind, or know His thoughts, unless He reveals them. So again, if you are thinking about something, it's clearly you thinking about it. If you can come up with it, it's not God. And if you have any doubt as to whether a thought came from you or God, it didn't come from God. Because God's thoughts are infinitely above yours, you can be certain that if He reveals His thoughts to you, it would be undeniably irresistibly clear.
I told my daughter, "If you don't know if it's God speaking to you, then it's not."

The Oracle
If anyone speaks, let him do so as one who speaks the oracles of God. 1 Peter 4:11
I am sitting alone, listening, waiting for God to speak, to respond to my question. I feel an inner sensation. An intuition. A revelation. I write it down. I pray for words that capture the sensation of illumination. Not too many. Not too few. These are the words of God.

Surely the LORD does nothing without revealing His secrets to His servants the prophets. Amos 3:7
I am sitting alone with God, connecting, communing, feeling His heartbeat. I sometimes smile when I feel His laughter. Tears fill my eyes when I see what He sees on earth. I am most honored. God is telling me how He feels.
***
Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 9:24-24
I am sitting alone with God, after hearing His heart, wiping His tears, laughing at his jokes. Sitting at His feet, I understand what He's thinking and why He's thinking it. I realize that at this moment, no one is wiser, stronger, or richer than I am. To have the heart of God, to be able to hear the mind of the Maker, is the truest wisdom, the strongest strength, and the richest richness.

“Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet."...."Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did." John 4:19,29.
I am sitting with a stranger, led by the Spirit to her. Though I've never met her, I perfectly understand and know her. She gazes, amazed. She feels more connected than she has ever felt in her life. She is not my wife, but she loves me as if I were her husband, her friend, her father, her brother. She loves me as she has loved none other, because she feels loved by me uniquely. Intimately. She longs for God because of me.

"If an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!” 1 Corinthians 14:24-25
I am sitting with a stranger, led by the Spirit to him. I know what he thought this morning. I know what he is thinking right now. I know him. He feels understood beyond understanding. Connected to me as to a brother, a father, a companion. "You're talking to me in the way that I think," said the stranger. "How are you doing this?" "God's Spirit is in me. He knows you infinitely, and is sharing who you are with me." "I want to know God," says the man. "That's why I'm here. Today, the Spirit of God will be in you too."

How To KNOW GOD'S VOICE (PART 1)
What is God's tone of voice? What does God's voice sound like?
A boy named Samuel heard God calling him and thought it was his mentor Eli.
Twice God called Samuel.
Twice Eli told Samuel it wasn't Eli.
Then Eli perceived that Samuel was hearing God.
So Eli told Samuel what to say: "Speak LORD, your servant is listening."
God spoke to Samuel a third time, and from that point on Samuel knew God's voice.
You can.
It is written,
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
- Once you know His tone of voice, You know His voice once and for all.
- Just like the voices of your father, or mother, or lover, or best friend.

- What if by the end of these blogs you could know God's tone of voice?
- What difference would it make in 2014 if you knew the voice of God?
You can.
It is written,
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
God's tone of voice has three characteristics:
1. It's alive.
2. It's active.
3. It's penetrating.
This is how God's voice sounds.
When you hear God speaking to you, it will be energizing and activating. You will feel more alive and active than you've ever felt, because Life Himself will be speaking to you. If you feel dead or passive when hearing any spirit, it is not The Spirit of God. This is crucial. In séances and other demonic supposedly spiritual experiences, the condition is passivity, like in hypnotism. Mind altering drugs and situations seek to put you in a comatose state in the name of entering the spiritual. This is the devil. God's voice will not render your mind or will passive. His voice will energize and activate your mind and conscious free choice.
God's voice is also supremely penetrating.
Find out how.

How To KNOW GOD'S VOICE (PART 2)
God's voice is alive, active, and penetrating.
It is distinguishing.
It is clarifying.
--When you hear God's voice, you won't mistake Him for you.
(Dividing soul and spirit, self consciousness and God consciousness.)
--When you hear God's voice, you'll distrust your abilities and trust his abilities.
(Dividing joint and marrow, the core of your mobility.)
--When you hear God's voice, you will feel liberatingly naked, as it is written,
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13
(Your real thoughts and intentions of the heart will be revealed.)

If the voice is unclear, it is not the voice of God!
If the voice is ambiguous, it is not the voice of God!
You now know God's tone of voice: how He sounds.
Now know what kinds of things He says.
Now know the character of God.
- When God speaks by His Spirit, He will focus you on Christ the Lord.
- When God speaks by His Spirit, He will be true to all of His promises, as it is written,
God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’
“This is my name forever,
the name you shall call me
from generation to generation.
Exodus 3:15
He is who He is.
He is who He was.
He is who He will be.
- God's tone of voice is alive, active, and penetrating.
- God's character is trustworthy, honoring Jesus, honoring His promises.
You can know the voice of God.
You can follow His voice for the rest of your life.
Starting now.
Starting this year.
Starting tonight.
